Wanting to treat my partner and her young son to somewhere new for a Saturday evening meal, I thought I'd give the Durham Ox a try but unfortunately, the experience was a little disappointing. When asking for a childs portion of steak and kidney pie, this was dismissed as not possible and yet the portion served was obviously taken from a large dish so we were left wondering why there had been a problem with the request. A salad which was ordered for the main course was served at the same time as the starter thus getting warm at the table and my steak, which was specifically ordered medium to well done was quite rare in the middle. Since plates and cutlery were swiftly removed between courses and the table completely cleared once we'd asked for the bill, which was by no means cheap in comparison to other establishments, we were left feeling that our custom was not greatly appreciated. For these main reasons, I'm sorry, but we will take our custom elsewhere in future.

This place is quite a fun place to go but for all the wrong reasons, the staff are always shouting at each other and the whole experience is like watching fawlty towers, good food if you like beef!

Excellent friendly establishment, lovely food, steaks a speciality. Highly recommended. Cash or cheque, no cards though.
