This place has a reputation for good food. This may well be the case.
Unless of course you're Veggie, in which case it serves the worst Veggie lasagne I have ever had in 17 years of Vegetarianism. Think a packet of frozen veg (broad beands, sweetcorn, cubes of carrot, turnip & potato etc) baked between sheets of lasagne. No bechemal sause, no tomato sauce. I was hungry so I ate it and paid for it, but when the landlady asked the usual "was everything allright for you?" I admitted that no, in actual fact it wasn't actually very nice. At this she got all arsey and said that I probably was just used to frozen lasagne from supermarkets!
I don't know whether she just doesn't like veggies or if it was because me and t'wife were a bit scruffy and had arrived in the old camper van after a weekend at Ireby festival, but we were extremely polite and never once hinted that we weren't going to pay or anything.
If she can't handle the feedback then she shouldn't ask the question.
My advice is that regardless of whether you are a veggie or a carnivore, the attitude of the management stinks. Give it a miss. Caldbeck and Bassenthwaite are only a few miles away and there are far better pubs at either.
