I have been in the Romper many times, on and off over the years. Recently i have been in a few times, really enjoy the lunch time menu. my problem and it always has been a problem, is the landlady should be more of a hostess.more hands on, behind the bar instead of leaving it to young often uninterested girls. Who often are not where they should be, waiting to welcome their guests, instead of us stood waiting at an empty bar like a fools. There should always be somebody behind the bar.

Just fancied a change so tried out the Romper having not been for years. A very cold wintry night so wanted something hot and filling. Both had the lamb shank that came with potato and roasted veg. I wanted to change the potato to jacket and my friend changed to chips. We were served each a lamb shank with 2 lots of potato and no veg. When asked about the vegetables we were told that they would have to charge extra for these as we had asked for extra potato. When we explained that we only wanted one potato dish with the shank and the veg that was included, we were told an extra charge applied. Needless to say we had no veg and left the boiled potato. The apple pie was "pinged" and soggy. The custard warm and from a tin. Yuk. Americano coffee came looking like a latte. Then there was service charge. Are they having a laugh. Never to be visited again.

Superb ... We've always loved The Romper, but the new menu is just excellent. So much choice the staff were friendly and helpful. The wine list needs updating but we tend to stick to the £7 a bottle of house wine, very palatable. We're sure to remain regulars here!!

My friend and I called for lunch yesterday whilst out for a walk. We were offered the "dinner" menu, but had to then ask for a "snack" menu. We both chose the "Chef's Burger" with coleslaw, chunky chips, BBQ sauce, etc. The burgers which arrived were flat ones which appeared to have a slice of grilled cheese inside the bun. We thought they tasted and looked exactly like a cheap frozen, inferior budged burger that one might buy in a pack of 4 from a cheap supermarked. The chips were awful. We thought we were going to get a substantial chunky home-made burger, and there was certainly no mention of grilled cheese. We wish we had been told there were no home-made burgers, and we could then have ordered an alternative. We will not be going back for lunch. The Midland pub at Marple Bridge does an excellent home-made burger with the trimmings for £6.99, and there is no comparison with that and the one we were presented with at The Romper.

Fantastic...what a refreshing change to find a pub/restaurant that not only serves great food but fab very reasonably priced wines too. We visited on Saturday night and the place was heaving, luckily we booked in advance. I am somewhat shocked to read the latest reviews because it could not be further from the truth??!! We love it keep up the good work!

What a bloody awful restaurant. had heard good things and been told that the reataurant had improved. We were excited to try it, but have been left hugely disapointed. Cold food, cold service and no atmosphere.

I don't usually make a habbit of writing reviews, especially bad ones like i'm about to write now, but the food was so bad that I feel the need to share our truly dissapointing experience. One can only presume that the chef is somehow related to the owners for I can think of no other reason why he would still be working there. My lamb shank was just plain awful, and came with the biggest potatoe i'd ever seen, also on the plate came atleast a dozen new potatoes, one look at it, and I already knew that I would not be finishing it all off, little did I realise almost all of it would be left. I have never known a chef disguise a sauce in so many ways. We didn't staff to be that bad, but our wine was luke warm, and certainly not refreshing. It's a shame really, because the Romper is a lovely place, even if it does lack character, which could be down the fact hardly anyone was sat down eating.

Popped in today on the way back from a shopping trip to Alderley with my wife and a friend. The place was nice and quiet, staff very helpful and service quite quick. We had a simple jacket potato lunch with side plate of cheddar and bacon and a our friend had fish, chips, peas, tartare and a few other bits. It's the first time we've been here but we'll definitely go back soon. I'm a bit of a tight-wad but I thought the prices were reasonable and the lunch-time atmosphere was what we needed.

Had lunch here accompanied by someone who had been before and what a thoroughly agreeable experience. The menu was certainly not what one would have expected from a country pub but all the better for that. We both had the lamb kebabs which were a joy. Beautiful tender lean meat cooked to perfection over a charcoal grill and I don't know what the chef did to the rice which can be rather boring but not here. Delicately flavoured and slightly buttery it made a nice change. I can also recommend the spicy Turkish sausage which I had as a starter and the faint hearted needn't worry, it wasn't at all overpowering. My first visit but certainly not my last.

Over cooked food after 45 minute wait for service, no offer of desert or coffee resulted in a dreadful experience. Cheshire has many wonderful eateries the Romper is not one of them.

We visited the Romper on my wifes birthday and I have to say what a truly pleasant experience it was. The food was excellent offering an enjoyable meal at a very reasonable price. My wife is a vegetarian and finds most restaurants offerings boring and bland but she rated her meal at the Romper one of the best she has ever had. The staff were both pleasasnt and efficient and the refurbished premises are both tasteful and comfortable. The rural location is very attractive and although the weather was poor when we visited I imagine that on a nice day the option of dining in or outside would be a difficult choice. The dining area is compact but in my view this only adds to the feeling of exclusivity. What more could you want !! So to sum up I would say that I heartilly recommend the Romper to anyone and I will definitely be returning.

. got steated and ordered a mezze. this was bland and just tasted of yohurt- the food certainly was not fresh!for the price i was expecting a high standard!i was expecting true med food, but it was so bland and greasy we all felt ill. The main courses were even worse. all starting at £11.00 we expected true kebabs, but again we were met with dissapoitnment. greasy,tastless,pre-sliced chips which had been fried-not even a lot of them. a poor attempt at salads- no dressings and all the meat was tough.asked for chilly sauce and was afced with bland tomato slasa. It got to the point where a member of our party couldn't even face eating her fatty lamb knuckle!!£15.00 for a piece of halibut with little veg- a right rip-off!. when complaining about the food we were met with rudeness from the staff. they hardly seemed botherd and no apology! we had to demand to get it taken off the bill. the staff were distant and not helpful in the slightest. orderd a salad with pasta- this did not arrive! I wont even go into the state of the toilets. I would not recommend this to anyone. Over priced tastless and unwelcoming!

Monday evening is obviously not a good time to eat out! Having established that the Romper Inn was open and serving, our party of 3 turned up at around 8.30pm. Yes the young lady confirmed, they were serving food. We sat down, and eventually someone came and asked if we wished to eat. Yes we confirmed. "The kitchen is closed" we were told as bluntly as that. No explanation, no apology, no suggestion of an alternative. We told the young lady on our way out, who seemed very surprised, in case anyone else fell foul similarly. No more Romping for us! We did find a very nice Italian restuarant in Marple who had no problems serving us.

After reading Julie's comments on this website, we feel we should offer a little defence to the Romper as we were there on the same night. We had been recommended The Romper restaurant by our next door neighbours (who have been 3 or 4 times since it opened) and so decided to try it. I must say that we were not disappointed !. The food was excellent, averagely priced and plentiful, and the service was good. The whole place has been refurbished from an "oldy worldy" country pub to a modern, bright and cheerful restaurant with some very unique ornaments. There is a definite personal touch to the decor, obviously not furnished by a pub chain, which in this day and age is quite refreshing. The restaurant was quite warm as Julie mentioned, but it was very busy. After we ate, we sat in the bar area for a drink which was lovely. We had finished eating and did not want to go home or hog the table as there were people waiting. (I would bear this in mind if you are thinking of going on a Saturday night). The bar had a friendly atmostphere and there was a distinct lack of youths which is rare. We have since recommended The Romper to some of our friends, and wish the new owners every success for the future - Thanks for a pleasant visit!

Julie.... I am so sorry that you were not overjoyed with your Romper experience. I would urge anybody who has an issue to let the management know at the time, as it does not allow for us to rectify the problem if we are not aware of it! It is always preferable to us reading it on a website. Myself or Suat the chef, are always around if any customer wishes to mention anything... we are always very grateful of any feedback ... Thank you. Emma

My husband, daughter and boyfriend visited the Romper for a Saturday night meal. The service was very slow and the waiters almost comatose. My husband's meal came before all of ours and he had virtually finished his before ours arrived. Jason ordered chips with his main course but got rice - the waiter said he would bring chips but they never arrived! Our plates were cleared eventually and we had to ask for the bill. The heat in the restaurant area was overwhelming and very uncomfortable. It was a totally horrible experience and we will not be returning under any circumstance. When will restaurants in this country start to realise that people travel all over the world now and have come to expect good service and food at a reasonable price.

We had the good fortune to stumble across this hostelry whilst out rambling the suurounding peaks - whilst the weather was cold the welcome we recieved in the Romper was far from cold . As a newcomer to the joys of real ale I was presently supprised by the traditional cask ales served up here . We did not have chance to sample the food at the Romper but the ambience from the restauarant area and a reading of the menu offerings will certainly see us return here in the not to distant future

We Visited the newly renovated Romper recently and have to say there is a Vast improvement to my previous visit. Lets start with the new restaurant.. The service is excellent and the Chef Extremely pleasant and courteous, the setting ambient but Modern. Food is Excellent!! The New Bar- Again a nice setting , modern with a Large Plasma screen. Seating is slightly cramped, resembling a doctors waiting room ever so slightly and there were children from the premises roaming, uncontrolled by the new owners. This isn’t a huge problem I guess, in the day but in the evening its ridiculous and needs attention. It needs to be said you actually get the feeling that you are coming into some bodies Living room and There is a slight atmosphere ,you almost feel like you are intruding at times this is implemented by who I assume is the current owner , who is almost watching over You, This is unrequired and in a small pub feels rather uncomfortable . The general staff are fine and the Bar manager/supervisor, which is a young lady behind the bar, is extremely polite and courteous and almost made us overlook the above negatives. All in all I would say visit the new romper, solely for the restaurant. In summary, Make over good however There is a Major flaw with the Toilets , they are Awful and ,More noticeably, untouched in the renovation. Realistically the bar area is quite small , probably too small and Houses too few people, so avoid at peak times or with a large group.

Having visited many times over the last few years, and living close by, I was very interested to see the reults of the transformation The Romper has undergone. In summary, excellent food, a comprehensive wine list reasonably priced, and after a few days of re-opening, a great atmosphere. The improvements made are amplified by the friendly and attentive staff and hosts. Give it a try, it seems The Romper is, finally, back!
