We visited the Dog and Badger for lunch yesterday on our way up the Thames. It is a stunning little place with loads of history. The owner has only had it a short while and is doing a great job of getting the pub a good reputation again. We had a fantastic lunch at a very reasonable price. We also had a pleasant conversation with the owner. Would fully recommend this pub to anyone in the area or passing through as we were.

This pub has been closed since January 2011.. We happend upon the new owners today, they had just been given the keys ! The new landlords have been in the trade since 1989 and currently run the chequers Inn in Fingest..A pub I have visited recently...a lovely pub, considerably improved since they took it on just 20weeks ago but now moving on to the Dog and Badger following appalling treatment by their Brewery landlords Brakspears...(read the numerous past reports in the Henley Standard regarding Brakspears). I have great hopes for this pub...The current plans are to re-open for the weekend of the Royal Wedding..but not fully...but even if limited, given my experience of the Chequers under their tenure..no doubt it will be a good experience and one I look forward to. I wish them well and will return very soon!

Well it might have been good but we will never know. The pub had been suggested as a good place for lunch on our Thames river trip. Easy to find with a large sign on the river bank extolling the virtues of the food and pointing the way down the lane. After a walk of just over half a mile carrying paddles and all our belongings (canoes left on the bank-side) we found it closed. The sign on the gate said closed indefinitely. We found out later it had already been shut for a while. A waste of time and effort. I tried to phone the pub to ask them to take down their sign but the number listed on this website is now 'number unrecognised'. Maybe we should have taken it down ourselves.

A beautiful pub with great food and attentitive staff. My wife and I enjoyed a lovely afternoon moored at the river in Medmenham and stopping for a quick bite at the Dog and Badger. Our meals were of generous portion sizes and elegantly presented. With polite and attentitive staff, it made for a lovely meal out. I highly recommened the Dog and Badger to anyone looking for a warm, welcoming atmosphere

A disappointment from the word 'go'. Around 7.30 pm on a summer evening and the car park was almost empty. We wandered in to the bar, wandered around, and it was quite a while before anyone appeared to greet us - and that greeting was far from warm! We had hoped for a bar meal (having seen a sample menu on the website) - only to be told that they only served those at lunch time (no indication of that on the menu/website). When we mentioned we wanted something light (a hot, humid summer evening) we were not given any suggestions - just told we could have starters if we wished. We settled for fish and chips - looked reasonable on the plate, but not good to eat; chips although seemingly hand cut tasted as though they had been reheated. We were on a reconnaissance trip hoping to take some friends there the following week (we enjoy trying different local restaurants) - needless to say we shall not be returning. Over-priced, paper napkins (not what we hope from a gastro-pub!)and not very friendly service. There was no spark of personality between owners/staff and ANY of the customers. Maybe the owners need a holiday!

A great find for anyone wondering up from the river! A cosy atmosphere and really tasty food and make sure you stay around for dessert - I particularly enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding.

Very much enjoyed the new feel to the place - a much brighter and friendlier experience than before. The menu is just right with generous portions of good grub! Particularly enjoyed the desserts too - overall a really nice experience!

Overambitious menu. Some dishes very poor quality (mushy fish, tasteless risotto). Would have expected better at the price. Home made burgers and chips good, but don't expect to come out feeling full. Sadly, not as good as it used to be.

I am so pleased that this place he reopened. Having popped in for a few drinks mid-week, this weekend I went for a meal with my partner - I have to say that we both thought that the food could give the best restaurants in Henley a run for their money. I had a delicious steak with wild mushrooms and chips, whilst my partner enjoyed the seasonal risotto. We went off for a walk with the dog after lunch (they seem to be very dog friendly here) and finished off our lazy Saturday afternoon with a delicious cream tea!

We stumbled across this place and discovered that it has just re-opened - I can't recommend it highly enough! The food was delicious (I had an extremely tasty burger with home-made chips, followed by a very moreish sticky toffee pudding). They seemed to have a good selection of drinks too, and a particularly nice real ale on tap. To top it all, the prices were really very reasonable indeed - long live the credit crunch!!!

The really high standard of the food at the Dog & Badger came as a wonderful surprise and we don't know why they aren't booked up weeks ahead. Although the decor is the usual charming old world pub, the food is of a much higher standard than most of the other places in the area and Carlos and his team deserve to have great success. The fish dish I had was second to none I have eaten in Britain. We will certainly be going back there whenever we are in the area. It is so refreshing to get super, well-cooked food that is not the mediocre, loveless run-of-the mill stuff that so many British pubs have resorted to serving up- or the chi-chi pretentious offerings that one sometimes encounters at the top end of the pub-grub spectrum.

I should visit this restaurant more often but have managed two visits on successive birthdays, the most recent being one of those "notable" birthdays! This time there were four of us and we were treated to a succession of suitably splendid dishes with something to please everyone. A warm & welcoming atmosphere pervades this historical establishment. Carlos family run Sardinian restaurant has added another memorable & tasty chapter to the long history of Ye Olde Dog & Badger. Bon apetite!

Today was our 4th visit in 5 months to "Olivastro"@The Dog and Badger. As before, the service is excellent and warm, and the food authentic Italian, fresh, fragrant and very tasty. It's a familiy run business, and it shows in their attentiveness to their customers, and creates a very nice atmosphere. Worth every deviation from the M4 or M40!

Fantastic, the hospitality was superb, food was delicious. We had tagliatelle with langoustine with a touch of chilli just right, pasta in a cream sauce with nutmeg, saffron, ham, rocket and parmesan and monkfish with tomato and prawn sauce with fresh vegetables. All the food was delicious and piping hot, this was washed down with a crisp Sardinian white. We shall certainly recommend to others and look forward to returning.

I was delighted in my last visit, the place has changed and for the better. The Sardinian food served is of the highest quality, truly delicious and complemented by a very welcoming host; Carlo Arrigoni, proprietor. Highly reccomended.
