Having eaten in the Angel Inn in the past and read excellent reviews, we were disappointed at the unimaginative menu for a Saturday lunchtime. It appears the Inn is under new ownership. My meal was only just satisfactory and when a polite comment was made to the manager the response was argumentative to the point of rudeness. We certainly won't return.

Most eating places in England serve second rate food at first rate prices, and consider themselves very much finer than they actually are. The Angel is one of the few exceptions. Their food is of the highest quality, the ambience and service friendly, and value is excellent. One of the best pubs I have ever eaten in(and I am quite old). Don't change a thing!

My husband and I were staying in a hotel near by. It was his 40th birthday and we were recommended by some people we met to have a meal at The Angel Inn. I went as far to say that it was the best meal I have ever had. I did not want it to end. I have eaten at the Famous Cafe Sydney overlooking Sydney Harbour bridge-food wise and it was on par if not better than that. The prices were brilliant too. We shared 1 starter and had 2 main courses and 1 pudding plus 3 drinks =£42. I had lamb culets stuffed with apricots and stuffing it was divine. Cooked to perfection. Beautiful sauce with it, and we ate every single piece of veg it was cooked so beautifully. We sat in front of an open fire, and the service was impeccable.Seperate lounge area for smokers. Main bar and eating area no smoking. Served our food so quickly and it was pretty full. It is a shame we live over 3 hours away as I would like to visit on a regular basis!
