I visited this evening at 6 with my 85 old Mum she ordered the Partridge at nearly 14 pounds it was a treat for her birthday and she was visiting me I am local. The bird was pink. We asked the waiter to ask the chef why. He came back and said if it had been a chicken he would have been concerned. However, it should be pink. My poor Mum could not cut it. It obviously was not cooked the waitress came over and could see Mum was stuggling to get some meat off it. The waitress whispered into Mum use your fingers. I was in total shock. But not surprised as I had been at the pub when it was taken over and had an experience where the staff kept saying they were sorry as they did this evening the all said they were sorry as I handed over my credit card to pay. The waiter said he had spoke to the manager about Mum not being able to eat the bird and what the chef had said and he said that they were now considering taking partridge off the menu as people were saying it was pink. I just paid the bill they took the full payment. And just said they were so so sorry. I cannot keep coming into your pub to eat and go out with staff saying they are so sorry because of the food. It is embarrassing. I have brought my family twice to the pub and recommended friends and they have come back to me to say that they had dreadfully cold food and came out with staff saying sorry. It goes like this We will change it but after waiting for a long time for the food to arrive, the fact that if you are like me you dont like to complain and you dont want to make a fuss you just end up paying the bill and thinking to yourself never again. As I say I have given it three goes now and this tonight was the worst and the last time I am coming into eat at your premises. Its a shame because I have just moved here and I so wanted to have a local I could bring my family and friends to. I feel very sad and I am upset because my poor Mum was so looking forward to having a nice meal. She was so hungry and is going home with an awful memory of her visit to the local pub. I did not want that to be the case as I wanted to enjoy the pub, but I cannot accept all the apologies about the food and it was not cheap as the bill was 25 pounds. I hope that you can take notice of this and maybe learn how to cook game birds

2 of us called in at the Trusty Servant for a quick snack at lunchtime.Although since I was last here several years ago the pub has been nicely refurbished the food has not improved. We both ordered from the light bites and snacks menu a mackerel salad, and goats cheese and beetroot salad. The mackerel one consisted of 2 small fillets of mackerel on a bed of salad. No bread was included, £2 extra for that! One mouthful of the mackerel and I was nearly ill. It was covered in something oily and rancid tasting - was that the salad dressing? The salad consisted of a few frizzy pieces of lettuce and several bitter red cabbage leaves, that was it.I did not eat another mouthful but complained to the waiter and then later to the bar girl who took our orders. My friend's salad was bland but luckily not inedible! Each salad cost £6.50 without a decent dressing and of course no bread. Coffee and wine was good. A visit to the loos was also a shock. 2 toilets and no loo paper in either, hand dryer did not work. We won't be back again.

I used to live in Minstead so a trip to the pub was a trip down memory lane. The first seafood dish my husband ordered they didn't have and his second choice was unavailable too! We both then ordered the steak, and lo behold they didn't have any of that either! total rubbish. We left without eating at all.

This place has gone downhill - freefall style - since its recent management change. The choice on the menu is very very limited and still they cant get it right. We ordered two bacon and brie baguettes and a 4 oz steak sandwich at £6-95 each. The food was simply thrown on the plate - the "salad" was a few prices of old lettuce, the bacon was uncooked and the steak had been on A diet and weighed in at a trim 1 oz. Needless to say it all went back 0/10 for style effort and quality

Terrible! I used to come to this pub 3-4 years ago and used to like the food very much. It clearly must be under new management and it is certainly not an improvement! The new staff now provide a limited menu (used to have a very large selection) and the quality of the food is pretty poor. What a dissapointment!

Had an excellent meal today with my family and was greatly entertained by the barman's performance of Thriller (sadly didn't get his name). Great service and would certainly recommend this pub now under new management. The fish was delish.

Would definitely recommend this Pub following recent face lift. Excellent selection of food really well presented and efficiently served. I had Game pie with chunky chips! Located in the village centre it is ideal for lunch or dinner with ample parking and a spacious garden (bit cold this month but will be great in the summer). Oh so much better than ghastly "two for one" or Mc D's meets Pub style chains. Enjoy!

I've been eating here for about twenty years on and off and always enjoyed. I ate there today and had the worst sunday roast of my life.

Since writing my question about the Stirling bomber fuselage on Minstead Village green, I have changed my e-mail address. There have been no replies on your site, so wonder if anyone with the answer could e-mail me direct at ericgrant@talktalk.net.

Is the "Trusty servant" the pub on the old village green at Minstead? I remember the fuselage of a Stirling bomber situated on the green there, and played in it as a boy. Does anybody know the story of this plane, and what happened to it?
