Takes Pub cuisine back to the70's. Generally ingredients were clearly not fresh. To call the menu uninspiring is an understatement. Better to do 4 or 5 things properly! Service also woeful. Not worth a visit

One of the most disaapointing meals out for a long time - I though this sort of catering and attitude to guests had gone from the national cuisine. When booking we specifically asked whether they could cater for a gluten free diet and were told this was no problem. On arrival we asked them to identify the guten-free items on the fairly extensive menu and were told not to worry if we showed interest in any item they would let us know whether the sauce could be adjusted to be gluten free. Sadly what happened was that every item we picked we were just told [point blank had gluten in it - no attempt to use imagination (later understood why - everythig had clearly come from biughtin sauces and bottles). Finally we asked again which were gluted free and were told it was a choice between the chicken and avocado salad (not somethig you really fancy for Sunday lunch in March!) and the duck. My sister did not fabcy this so asked for the steak without the sauce. Steak duly arrived on a plate with no seasoning, garnish or anything. The chips were soggy and quickly coooled and the gluten free salad was the salad without the coleslaw (no mention of this when ordering and no attempt to substitute any additional salad). For £13 my sister got a lump of plain meat, a hand ful of soggy chips and a few bits of lettuce. We asked for some table sauce such as mustard and ended up in an argument that all mustards contain gluten (no so according to the coeliac society. When it became clear we were not happy mine host came round and intimidated the party to shut up and accept what was given. Agaioin no attempt to provide any sort of flavouring. Blatantly lying about he having been offered alternatives and stating that they had Coleman's mustard which is gluten free yet waitress insisted they didn't have it. Clearly the visit to the table to ask whether we were happy was lip service only and they didn't like being told the truth. Sister actually probably did better than me - I went for the ribs with the BBQ sauce with gluten. The BBQ sauce was clearly the poorest quality catering saice froma bottle and the nastiest thng I have tatsed in a long time. Having scraped it off the ribs I had the undedifying sight of a piece of meat that looked as if the last drop of meat juices had been cokked from them - it was just plain brown cardboard and crumbled it was so dry (waiter had optimistically offered me steak knife - sic - in more ways than one!). My siter-in-law's grilled goats chees was on a roll that was black charcoal round the edges - doubtless the cook (?) would say you can't grill without burning the bread but - yuck! Borther didn't complain about his slab of lamb shoulder but did admit it was excessively sweet. So disappointign we had a lovely meal here a couple fo years ago - I won't be going back in a hurry and would recommend anyone wanting to eat in the area to try the excellent Running Horse down the road in Littleton or the outstanding Dove in Micheldever Station which truly understand good food and customer service.

We stumbled upon the Fox & Hounds by luck on 26 May. We were looking for a country pub en-route from Guildford to Andover and liked the look of this one from the outside. The surrounding villages with their thatched cottages and picturesque country appeal sealed the deal for us and we went in... We were welcomed into the restaurant and enjoyed a delicious meal. In fact, we liked it so much we arranged to go back the following Saturday, this time taking our 14yr old son. The food on the second visit was, if anything, BETTER than on the first visit, so we are looking forward to another visit sometime soon. And in the meantime, I have been recommending this pub to anyone who might be interested. Many thanks from the Allen family.

Sadly a very average offering. The location is fine but the food is overpriced and lacking in any kind of flavour or imagination. A real 1 out of 10.
