My partner and I have just returned from a short break at Cedar Falls in Somerset and having never been to a health spa before I arrived with a completely open mind. When you first arrive it is the overwhelming sense of relaxation that you really notice. Travelling up a long, tree lined driveway past several lakes, you soon reach the main 'listed' building where all the action takes place. The setting is beautiful. Lovely open lawns, water features, birds chirping and a mighty Cedar tree. When we were there the magnolia flowers were in full bloom, creeping slowly up the handsome red sandstone house which dates back to the 1700’s. After a sound night’s sleep in a room that was once the preferred choice of none other than Sir Winston Churchill, my Saturday morning started with a visit to the steam room which left me feeling incredibly refreshed. Next was the heated indoor pool for a few lazy lengths before the sad realisation that I wasn’t as fit as I once was kicked in. This is where Cedar Falls scored so highly for me. What you get for your money is a fantastic experience where YOUR relaxation and contentment are the staff’s number one priority. The owner has made the most of the space available (by no means cramped at over 44 acres) so that guests can enjoy the whirlpool, saunas, steam rooms & gym inside and then top up their vitamin D outside on the tennis court, croquet lawn or golf course – a very challenging 9 hole, par 3, 18 tee affair with plenty of natural obstacles. So, the million dollar question - Are the treatments any good? Well yes, actually they are. Between us we had booked an Indian Head Massage, Hot Stone Back Treatment, Detoxifying Algae Wrap, Skin Brightener Facial and an Aroma Pure Steam Capsule, but you can book as many as you wish. So would I go back again? Without a doubt. This is not an everyday experience and for any men reading this, if you want to get some serious brownie points, take your other half there. Just sitting in the sun filled conservatory with a cool drink listening to the sounds of the water bubbling is great. The food was delicious, especially dinner, and the whole place is just so laid back.
