We have stayed and eaten at Ram Jam for many years but were very disappointed by todays visit. In an empty restaurant we waited forty minutes for our beer battered fish and chips, and the batter on mine was so thick and greasy it was impossible to eat. My husbands was a little better, though the peas on both were scarcely cooked and cold . My complaint was received most civilly and my bill was reduced accordingly. But the decline in the standard of food was sad to see.Gone was the open kitchen where the chef could be seen preparing the food to order and cooking real chips not the oven variety we had today It was no better than any motorway pitstop

First started using the Ram Jam on a regular basis in 1994, the food and service were excellent on every occasion. The homemade burger was superb. Over the years the Inn changed hands on a number of occasions and the standards started dropping slowly, but the burger was the usual standard until 2006 when on my last visit, after a further change of hands, i was given a higher priced, plastic, tasteless, concoction from the freezer by a member of staff who had little interest in anything, certainly not his job. Hopefully things have improved over the last three years,I#dlove to be pleasantly surprised on my next visit to the UK.

a lunch meeting with friends, for travelling arrangements the ram jam was central for all of us,i was impressed by the warm greeting from the staff, the menu had such a variety of choices, one of my friends tried the hot buffet and the rest of us ate off the menu, the food was served very quickly and hot,we will certainly return and try their breakfast menu.

me and my wife thought, when we got off the A1 for the night the Ramjam inn was going to be an run of the mill motel, but we were so pleased of the welcome and hospitality that we recieved. The room that we got was very nice. Our evening menu was a bit limited on choice but what we ordered, the standard of the food was fantastic. Food arrived on the table very quickly. Breakfast has a refreshing start to a new day on the road.

We jumped at our first chance to stay at this great looking place after a long, much delayed, weary drive from France on our way to Glasgow. The building and gardens look great and the room was equally good but the welcome was really unfriendly. The staff that night were all condescending, grudgingly giving service and apparently looking for infingements that they could make an issue of. No food was available when we arrived at 20.40 and the bar was to close at 21.30. We quickly bought sandwiches in the gas station next door and then had to beg for permission to eat them in the bar as we grabbed a rushed drink before it closed. Breakfast was great and the service OK but after our "welcome" it was hard to form a good impression and we shall not go back. We are shocked to think what visitors from other countries would think of such a welcome to Britain.

I visited at about 9:30 on a wet and very dark night. That seemed to set the scene. The bar was deserted and the restaurant was very quiet with only one or to guests. I asked if I could eat at the bar. Answer: No. No reason or excuse was forthcoming. I was led to a poorly prepared corner table. I ordered a coffee and a steakburger. The homemade steakburger was not available and so I was offered a bought in one. It was "still very good and bought from the butchers" according to my waiter. The coffee when it arrived had coffee grounds on the saucer, on the side of the cup and not suprisingly lots more in the bottom of the cup. The steakburger was the worst burger I have encountered in years. It was really tough, no flavour, and visually unappealing. It was accompanied a sesame seed bun a couple of lettuce leaves, two slices of tomato and very bland floury chips. Some mayonnaise, vinegar or sauce of any kind would have helped but there was none provided. For dessert I ordered "Warm Belgian waffles with a homemade banana ice-cream". What I got was actually very nice but wasn't what the menu promised. It was an only-just warm waffle topped with banana slices and toffee ice-cream, finished off with a toffee sauce. In conclusion, the main course was terrible and the dessert didn't make up for it. Especially since the menu promised banana ice-cream not toffee ice-cream. Avoid this restaurant.
