Cumbria Reports

Garrigill, Cumbria

Review of Garrigill by Dorothy on June 27th, 2009
We spent two weeks in Alston about three years ago. Since we were part way to Garrigill, it became a frequent spot for lunch. The George and Dragon was lovely--best chips in the world and fine friendly service. The age of the pub was evident and the small fires at each end of the room(s) were just enough to ward off the rain, ice and frosts of spring! We are so sorry the pub is closed, but understand the difficulties of keeping a pub going in such a small community. We send warmest greetings to Garrigill and its environments--the last wilderness area in the UK?--from California, and hope we hear of the George and Dragon's resurrection.
