Born 1934 - English actress.

Stage debut in 1952 in production of Twelfth Night. Joined National Theatre in 1963. Film debut in Nowhere to Go (1958). Became well known in film The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1969) winning an Academy Award. Later films include A Private Function (1984), A Room With A View (1985) and the Harry Potter films. Made a DBE in 1990.
