Richard Timothy Hunt studied at Clare College Cambridge, after which he began his research career at that university, and subsequently for a time in New York. He (with two others) was in 2001 awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work on protein molecules in cell division. He was knighted in 2006. In 2015 his comments on women as laboratory colleagues, intended to be light-hearted, caused much controversy.
