Born 1916. Died 1995 - English Labour politician and Prime Minister.


Educated at Oxford, lecturer in economics. Became MP for Orsmkirk in 1937, became principal Opposition Spokesman on Economic Affairs. Succeeded Hugh Gaitskell as leader of Labour Party in 1963, Prime Minister in 1964. Lost power in 1970 but lead party back to government in 1974. Resigned as leader in 1976. Knighted in 1976, created life peer in 1983.
