Has written hundreds of books and papers on the philosophy of religion. His books have been translated into 16 other languages. His major works include Faith and Knowledge (1966), Evil and the God of Love (1966), Death and Eternal Life (1976) and The Metaphor of God Incarnate (1993). Was awarded the Grawemeyer Award for Religion in 1991.
