Born 1918 - Ahmadnagar, India. Died 2002 - Irish writer and comedian.

Singer and trumpeter before WWII. Made radio debut in Opportunity Knocks (1949). Co-wrote and performed in the Goon Show (1951-60). Stage appearances included Treasure Island and The Bed-Sitting Room. Published children’s books, poetry, autobiography and comic novels including Puckoon (1963) and Peacework (1991). Awarded honorary knighthood in 2000.
