Friday 3rd September 2010 Fire could burn for two weeks
A fire at Thorne Moors in Humberside could burn for up to two weeks,
according to Natural England. The fire started on Sunday 29 August
2010 and has already destroyed around 100 acres at the Site of Special
Scientific Interest (SSSI). Strong winds have hampered the efforts of
more than 50 firefighters who were at the site, which is home to
hundreds of plant and animal species. A spokeswoman said: "The fire
will still be burning to a degree for potentially up to a few weeks
and very windy conditions could intensify the risk to the rest of the
site during this time." East Yorkshire
