Porthtowan is a delightful coastal village sheltering in a valley overlooked by granite cliffs, in North Cornwall. It's renowned for it's rich mining history, the legacy of which can be seen today. The Victorians and Edwardians came here in droves making it a popular destination, today sees surfers and visitors alike enjoying the stunning views of the Cornish coast, and close proximity of Portreath and St Agnes. The fine sugar soft sand is pleasing underfoot whilst rock pools where fascinating creatures lurk forever please younger visitors wielding a net, and of course when the surf is up the thrill of riding the waves and tubes is rarely beaten, if staying dry is preferred then time it right and one of the Surfing Championships may be on where surfers showcase their talents to an appreciative audience. Shops with a surfing flavour add to the air of this delightful seaside village that's surrounded by green countryside. There's also the chance for the energetic to walk from the beach, at low tide of course, all the way to Chapel Porth and on the return journey take to the Coastal Path along the cliff tops, where unforgettable wildlife soars and the views far out to sea will lighten any heart, Porthtowan's spell is left unbroken.
