Latchingdon is a small pleasant village set in the Dengie Peninsular not far from the city of Chelmsford in Essex, home to twelve hundred people. The surrounding area will please the choosiest of visitors, why not start exploring at Mangapps Railway Museum which has railway enthusiasts excited from the moment they arrive, this fabulous collection of Steam Locomotives, and the chance to ride in one, is definitely not to be missed. Step off the train at the restored station, or discover the many buildings, waiting rooms, signal boxes, and a treasure trove of memorabilia. Or maybe a visit to the Maeldune Heritage Centre will unveil the magnificent embroidery proudly on display which re-tells the story of the bloody Battle of Maldon that took place many centuries past. Younger visitors are not forgotten with Marsh Farm Country Park where there are farm animals to feed, and if that’s not enough, saddle up for a pony ride or have fun in the sand pit. Be prepared to be dazzled at RHS Hyde Hall where colourful plants weave their magic, or possibly the prospect of a tour around a vineyard will tempt a visit to New Hall Vineyard especially with the chance to sample a glass or two.
