The town of Liss lies within the county of Hampshire and can trace its history back to being mentioned in the Domesday Survey of 1086. The church of St Peter’s was built in the 15th/16th century and does boast a tower that was first built in the 13th century and is said to be situated on the site of an old wooden church. There is also the church of St Mary’s built much later in the 19th century. The town has had a long association with the agricultural industry and through the 19th century the town was famous for its production of peppermint.
Today the village of Liss comprises of a variety of architecture much of it Victorian, but with evidence of its earlier history still visible, the Blue Bell Inn, whilst it has been refurbished was first built in 1752, every corner seems to reveal an interesting building from the old railway workers cottages through to Knights Cottage or the Rectory.
The attraction of Liss today – apart from its almost rural location is that the railway to London Waterloo passes through the village and many of its residents find the commute to London relatively easy
