The district of London Bridge borders the south side of the Thames around the bridge and station of the same name. The station, London's oldest, links to Gatwick and Luton airports, while the tube brings countless visitors to this stretch of riverside, known between London Bridge and its neighbour, Tower Bridge, as The Pool Of London. Creative lighting sees London Bridge glowing spectacularly red at night. By day, families love taking cruises from City Pier, or experiencing gruesome historical re-enactments in the London Dungeon. The museum at The Oldest Operating Theatre In Britain is unusually diverting, and the Britain At War Experience recreates all the sights and sounds of the Blitz. Still standing are Southwark Cathedral, the city's oldest Gothic building, and the 1000-year-old Church of St Magnus The Martyr. Contrastingly, modern art, photography, theatre and even glass-blowing are celebrated locally; the Pierre Garroudi Gallery, under the viaduct, exhibits fashion, crafts, sculpture and graphics. Spendaholics, meanwhile, can simply step into Borough or stroll eastwards to the shops, bars and restaurants of Hay's Galleria, near the WW2 warship and museum HMS Belfast. Looking to the future, London Bridge is the site of the proposed Shard of Glass, Britain's tallest skyscraper.
