Sneem is a very attractive and lively village located on the
spectacular Ring Of Kerry scenic drive, between Kenmare and
Waterville. Situated on the northern side of Kenmare Bay, divided
into two parts by the River Sneem and overlooked by a range of
mountains, the village is memorable for its central bridge, its
proudly tended greens and its colourfully painted buildings. Many
water-based sports are enjoyed here, at the beautiful Oysterbed
harbour, or in the wider expanses of Kenmare Bay. They include
fishing, diving, sailing, kayaking, water-skiing and windsurfing, and
deep-sea fishing trips and guided tours of the bay are also popular,
not least for the frequent sightings of seals and dolphins. Golfers
are within easy reach of several fine courses, and horse-riding is
available for beginners and experts alike. Visitors to Sneem may like
to browse in arts and crafts galleries and markets, walk around the
statues in the remarkable Sculpture Park, relax amid exquisite
flowers and scents in The Garden Of The Senses, learn about local
geology at the Kerry Geo Park, explore the nearby coral beach (one of
only two in Ireland) or even adopt a sheep. Sneem welcomes guests
with great restaurants, pubs, festivals and events, including the
newly popular National Wife Carrying Championships!
