The Historic Dockyard Chatham is one of the world’s most fascinating and significant maritime heritage locations. Eighty acres containing spectacular architecture and exciting naval and maritime exhibits.
- Journey through 400 years of the history of Chatham and the Royal Navy in the Museum of the Royal Dockyard.
- Experience the open bridge of the World War II destroyer HMS Cavalier and go below decks to see how the crew lived.
- Swing through the hatches of the spy submarine Ocelot, the last warship built at Chatham for the Royal Navy, which prowled the depths of the oceans.
- 2004 sees the completion of the restoration of HMS Gannet, the last remaining Naval sloop of the Victorian Navy - a fully refurbished hull, re-floating, the masts and spars put in place and even rigged.
- Discover how a wooden warship was built in 1758 in the “Wooden Walls” exhibition, experience the sights, sounds and smells of the working 18th Century dockyard.
- See the RNLI’s national collection of lifeboats and relive the heroic rescues made by the volunteer crews as they risked their lives.
- Themed tours of the awe-inspiring, working Ropery complex using traditional methods dating back to 1618.
