Ounce House is sited at the high point of one of the finest residential streets in the centre of Bury St Edmunds "that loveliest of English Towns". Built as a merchant's house around 1870, this spacious family home, now with ample parking for cars, reflects Victorian elegance. The bedrooms are decorated individually with antique furniture and interesting paintings. All the rooms have flat screen televisions with freeview, DVD and CD players fresh flowers, hairdryers, ironing board and trouser press, free WiFi internet connection and direct dial telephone. Each bedroom has a bathroom and some have separate showers, others have shower over the bath. The beds have crisp cotton sheets and blankets. The prices include a full breakfast. We use local produce where we can and everything is freshly cooked to order. Breakfast is in the elegant Dining Room and is taken round the large family dining table. Why not try Jenny Pott's famous scambled eggs with locally sourced bacon, or smoked salmon! The town boasts many fine buildings and features including the Cathedral with its fabulous new Tower, the Theatre Royal, the only Regency Theatre in the country, the Abbey Gardens with the ruins of the medieval Abbey, lots of individual shops in the old town and brand the brand new shopping develpment "arc" with a large cinema, and a range of restaurants, all within a few minutes walk, which we can recommend and book for you. Bury has a very successful Music Festival in May and well established Christmas Market at the end of November. Bury is a wonderful centre for tourists with Norwich, Cambridge, Newmarket and Ely together with the East Coast ports and Aldeburgh all being reached within an hour by car, while relaxing visits can be made to the great Houses and Country Estates or to the delightful villages in this part of East Anglia. The M11 gives speedy access to London. Collection can be arranged from the railway or bus station. Ounce House has a five star rating.
