The Royal Hotel, an elegant Grade II listed building with its unique gold dome, has been a place of welcome to travellers since the early part of the nineteenth century. Situated in the heart of the thriving town of Hexham, the hotel dominates the street of Priestpopple. Built in 1820, the original coaching house was known as the 'New' or 'Low Grey Bull', eventually to become 'The Royal Hotel' in around 1870. Anthony and Jane Pelly took over in April 1998 with a vision to restore The Royal Hotel to its former glory.Hexham itself (pop:11,300) is a prominent market town that dates back to 674 AD. Many historic buildings still survive - among them the 12th Century Abbey, with its original 7th Century Saxon crypt (built from stone taken from nearby Hadrian's Wall), and the Old Gaol, the oldest gaol in England, now the site of the Border History Museum and the Hexham Tourist Information Centre. PLEASE NOTE: Check In is from 15:00 to 22:00. Check Out is by 10:00. We are a no smoking accommodation. We can accommodate pets by prior arrangement.
