At the foot of the Lake District's Western Fells, Hodgson House (left of left photograph) is one of a select number of properties enjoying a stunning setting within the 30 acre grounds of Irton Hall, a historic mansion visited by both Henry VI and Oliver Cromwell. Wastwater, Eskdale and Miterdale are easily accessible and fell walking, nature reserves and county pubs are all found nearby whilst St Bees' sandy beach is a short drive. Muncaster Castle with its famous Owl Centre makes a good day out as do trips on the Ravenglass to Eskdale steam railway. Boat trips on Lake Windermere are under an hour's drive. Pub 1 mile, shop 3 miles.
