Buttermere village is ideally situated amongst superb fellside scenery between Crummock water and Buttermere village. The heart of the hamlet is the Bridge Hotel, first licensed as a coaching inn in 1735. It is not, however, an old-fashioned hotel. By the careful selection of top quality furnishings and fabrics, the ambience of the old coaching inn has been retained.

The food here is wonderful and Cumbrians make the trek from miles around to sample the cuisine. Six silf-catering apartments have been added to the hotel and are proving opular. They sleep either four or six people each and the kitchens have every modern convenience. They are ideal for families.

This is a lovely, peaceful and satisfying venue for a stay in the Lake District
