The Fox, or Fox and Hounds as it was originally known, is the oldest public house in Menston dating back to 1822. The Fox was not always on this site and appears to have moved to this new position on the main road in 1849 to take advantage of the passing trade. It was previously located at the centre of the village at Lane Ends. Menston offers plenty of opportunity for peaceful country walks while nearby Ilkley is a thriving town centre featuring architecture of the Victorian times, when it was promoted as a fashionable spa town. One of the most popular walks in Illkley is up to the Cow and Calf Rocks which are millstone grit outcrops offering a number of rock climbing routes of about 15 metres in height. While out on the moors visitors might spot celebrity residents which include author Jilly Cooper, actor Clive Hornby and former NEXT chairman David Jones. Guests will be able to browse a new menu which includes a wide variety of freshly prepared classic pub dishes such as Slow Cooked Shoulder of Lamb, daily fresh fish dishes and Homemade Pie of the Day. There is also a separate lunch menu offering freshly made sandwiches and salads, perfect if you're just nipping in for a quick bite. Look out for the blackboard showing today's specials, and the thoughtfully selected range of delicious vegetarian options. There is an extensive wine selection to compliment the menu as well as a variety of continental lagers. There is no need to book, just come in and we'll look after you. The Fox boasts a stylish interior which adds to the traditional charm and character of the building. Features include a roaring open fire and several cosy areas to relax in. Guests will get great, friendly service in a relaxed atmosphere.
