North Nottinghamshire should be proud of The Square &Compass, for it’s the epitome of a great British country pub– low exposed beams, large open fire and a warm and invitingambience.The pub is located on the edge of the picturesque village ofNormanton-on-Trent, and draws customers from all overthe north of the county. It is a wonderfully spacious pub andrestaurant with lots of parking space, large play areas forchildren and an extensive menu served Tuesday to Thursday 12 til 3pm and 6 til 9pm, Friday & Saturday 12 til 9pm and Sunday 12 until 6pm. A Continental style breakfast is included however a full english breakfast can be provided at extra cost. Breakfast is served between 8.30am & 9.30pm where possible.Food is uncomplicated, mostly British and reasonably priced.The menu offers traditional pub food as well as more exoticdishes to satisfy a range of tastes and appetites. Starters includeHome-made Soup of the Day and Chef’s Chicken Liver Parfait.For a hearty main, try the Home-made Pie of the Day or thegreat steak offer of 2 Rumps and a bottle of House Wine foronly £20. Desserts include Home-made Gypsy Tart, LemonTart, or the famous Normanton Mess – delicious.Cask ales on rotation include Abbot’s Ale, Black Sheep andSpitfire. Sunday Lunch is a not-to-be-missed experience, with arange of roasts served throughout the afternoon for the excellentprice of £7.25 or come for the Credit Crunch Sunday Lunchwhich is held every 3rd Sunday of the Month where the MainCourse is £5.00 and children under 14 eat free (conditionsapply).
