Kensington Palace has been a royal retreat since 1689, when the newly crowned William III and Queen Mary II commissioned Sir Christopher Wren to convert Nottingham House into a Royal Palace.

The Royal Court and Ceremonial Dress collection dates from the 18th century, and audio tours allow visitors to participate in the excitement of dressing for court, from invitation to presentation.
