Kensington Palace has been a royal retreat since 1689, when the newly crowned William III and Queen Mary II commissioned Sir Christopher Wren to convert Nottingham House into a Royal Palace.

Multi language sound guides lead you around the magnificent State Apartments including the splendid Cupola Room where Queen Victoria was baptised, and the beautifully restored King's Gallery.

The Royal Court and Ceremonial Dress collection dates from the 18th century, and audio tours allow visitors to participate in the excitement of dressing for court, from invitation to presentation. There are also selections of dresses owned and worn by HM Queen Elizabeth II and Diana, Princess of Wales.

Hats and Handbags a unique exhibition celebrating royal accessories. With over 70 eyecatching hats belonging to HM Queen Elizabeth II, visitors can inspect at close quarters these memorable creations that have become a much loved trademark of the Queen (23rd May 2003 - 18th April 2004).
