Gently cradled in the Lake District’s most dramatic valley, Borrowdale Gates holds a south-facing view down the epic ‘Jaws of Borrowdale’, which Wainwright once described as “…the most beautiful square mile in Lakeland.”

Nestled beneath several famous fells, this modern country house boasts two acres of wooded gardens which provide a peaceful, sheltered corner in which to enjoy the stillness, the fresh country air and memorable moments with friends and family.

Such an ideal, natural setting is complemented seamlessly by the modern comforts provided within doors. Rooms are decorated in warm, soothing tones and come complete with Egyptian cotton linen, reading areas, hospitality trays and free wi-fi. Little extras like thick carpets, luxurious drapes and complimentary binoculars are signs that your are invited to feel warm, welcomed, and very much at home.

The lounges and restaurant share generous picture-length windows that frame the valley into seasonal dreams; luscious gardens and busy birdfeeders are succeeded by a quaint village scene and populated farm fields; all surrounded by wooded hillsides, dramatic peaks and distant purple ranges.

This resolves into an undeniably restful scene in which to sink into large armchairs before meals, to partake of the 20 malt whiskies or 11 gins we offer, or to enjoy complimentary tea beside log fires after a day’s activities.

Equally satisfying is the cuisine, which is carefully sourced from local suppliers where possible, and is lovingly prepared by a small team of dedicated and experienced chefs who continue to win praise from new and returning guests. Exceptional presentation blends well with classic dishes that take a minimalist approach, where the focus is on bringing out the true potential of every meal served. A comprehensive wine list features popular bottles from around the world as well as some closely guarded little secrets that are well worth exploring. Whether you’re a fell-top junkie or casual stroller, pet owner, romantic couple or small family, a seeker of peace and quiet or someone who appreciates a well-prepared meal; we are the answer. With Derwentwater Lake only ten minute’s walk away, and with the bustle of Keswick’s town centre only ten minute’s drive, we have our cake and eat it too. Arrive at the Borrowdale Gates, leave your car parked until you leave, and do something entirely different every day.

Make this your home from home.
