This is the only place to stop for lunch on the first leg of the South Downs Way, from Winchester to Exton. We arrived at about 2.15 and were "greeted" by the most miserable barman you could imagine. When I enquired about food he told me they'd stopped serving at 2pm, and that was that. When I tried to get a second drink at 3.01pm I was told he stopped serving at 3pm, despite not having called last orders. When we left he called out "cheers" - clearly not aware that the word implies good will and bonhomie!
So, if you're passing this place, please don't bother to stop. Take a packed lunch instead as they do not want your custom.
