Established British Rainfall Organisation, a network of volunteers observing the weather. Founded Symons’ Monthly Meteorological Magazine. Interested in instruments inventing the brontometer. Compiled a catalogue of over 60,000 meterological books. Elected FRS in 1878. Royal Meteorological Society established memorial fund on his death.
