Nurse on Italian front during WWI. Studied Arabic, invited to Baghdad by the Prime Minister. Worked on Baghdad Times, mapped Valley of the Assassins in Luristan. Worked for Ministry of Information in Aden and Cairo during WWII. Travelled extensively in Europe, Asian and Middle East writing over 30 travel books.
