Born 1829. Died 1871 - English dramatist.

Worked as actor, promptor and stage manager in London as well as translating French plays and writing for newspapers. First success was David Garrick (1864) but Ours (1866) established his reputation. Other plays followed including Caste (1867), School (1869) and Dreams (1869).
