Born 1890. Died 1974 - English physical chemist.

Studied at Trinity Hall, Cambridge. Work during WWI began interest in catalysis. In WWII involved in work on explosives, fuels and polymers. Award MBE in 1918, elected RFS in 1930 and awarded its Davy medal in 1951. Knighted in 1951.
