Ambrose Philips

Born 1674. Died 1749 - English poet.
Educated at St John’s College, Cambridge. Became MP for Armagh. Established reputation as a writer with Winter-piece in the Tatler and six pastoral poems in Tonson’s Miscellany (1709).
