Born 1623. Died 1687 - English economist.

Studied in Caen, Utrecht, Amsterdam, Leyden, Paris and Oxford. Physician to the army in Ireland. Established ironworks, lead mines and sea-fisheries in his estates in Ireland. Invented a copy machine (1647) and double-keeled boat (1663). Writings on economics included a Treatise on Taxes (1662) and Political Arithmetic (1691).
