Born 1846. Died 1891 - Irish politician.

Elected to Parliament in 1875 as a member of the Home Rule League (later re-named the Irish Parliamentary Party). In 1879 elected president of the National Land League. Implicated in May 1882 in the murder of two senior British officials in Phoenix Park in Dublin by members of an Irish terrorist group, cleared of any involvement. Cited in divorce case by William O’Shea. Lost popularity and was sidelined from political life. Died suddenly in Brighton on 6 October 1891.
