Born 1926 London - English naturalist & broadcaster.

Served in the Royal Navy. Joined BBC in 1952 as trainee producer, was later Controller of BBC 2 and director of programmes. World renown wildlife documentary maker producing series such as Life on Earth (1979), The Living Planet (1984), Life in the Freezer (1993) and The Life of Birds (1998). His books include The Tribal Eye (1976), The Trials of Life (1990) and The Private Life of Plants (1994). Awarded the CBE in 1974, knighted in 1985.
