Played with successful band Squeeze from 1974-80. Went solo in 1983. Formed his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra in 1994 which plays an average of 100 live shows a year, touring Britain and the world. Presenter of television programmes including The Tube, Juke Box Jury and Later...with Jools Holland. Awarded OBE in 2003.
