After stage school Outhwaite won various small stage and TV roles before her big break in 1998, landing the part of Melanie Healy on Eastenders, work she continued until 2002. She has since then landed a variety of leads in TV series and individual shows, made a few films that have not yet brought Hollywood celebrity, done work in musicals, and joined the regular cast of New Tricks on BBC.
