BOOK ENFIELD HOTELS

William Smith
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Enfield, London
Born in 1813
Died in 1893

William Smith was briefly steered towards careers in the church and the law before his true vocation as a classical scholar became evident during his studies at UCL. His expertise in that area led to the field in which he won recognition in his own time, including a knighthood in the year before his death, that of lexicography. He produced and helped to produce many dictionaries, most notably of Latin to English, of Greek and Roman Antiquities, and of the Bible.
