After taking a first in history at Girton College, Cambridge, Eileen Postan (her married name, she was born Eileen Edna le Poer) undertook research in Paris, Chartres and at the LSE, before teaching at Girton, the University of London and the LSE. She was a pioneer in the study of women’s history.
