Born on 10th of April 1894
Died on 6th of February 1982
Ben Nicholson came from an artistic family (both his parents painters as were his sister and some great uncles) that moved in artistic circles, as did he, all three of his wives with a creative bent, and with friends like Henry Moore and acquaintanceships with Picasso and Mondrian. After early figurative work he evolved a personal abstract style, sometimes strictly geometric, but most often moving from observed natural objects to create abstract pieces with subtle gradations and balance of line and colour. He also designed murals for the Festival of Britain and London’s Time-Life Building.
