Francis Maude, now Baron Maude of Horsham, is the son of a cabinet minister who became in turn a cabinet minister himself. He practised as a barrister for a time, served on Westminster City Council, and was an MP from 1983 to 1992, and again from 1992 to 2015. He has held several senior positions in government, including Financial Secretary to the Treasury, and Paymaster General. His career outside Parliament has not been without its critics.
