BOOK BRIDLINGTON HOTELS

William Kent
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Bridlington, East Yorkshire
Born in 1685
Died on 12th of April 1748

Kent’s career marks a fascinating progress from humble beginnings as a coach and sign painter, to an artist of note (sponsored by rich benefactors to study in Florence and Rome) who decorated interiors at Kensington Palace and Chiswick House among others, a furniture designer, and then as an architect and finally a landscape designer. He achieved lasting fame in those last two guises, his Palladian designs for such as the Treasury and Horse Guards buildings in Whitehall much admired still; and his work on gardens like those at Stowe making him a key early figure of the English ‘natural’ landscape style.
