Studied at the Slade School of Art, London. Was prisoner of war for three years during WWII. Won first prize in the John Moores Liverpool Exhibition (1963) and the UNESCO Prize at the 1964 Venice Biennale. Settled in Cornwall in 1965 where he worked with the St Ives group.
