Born 1901. Died 1988 - English artist and engraver.

Studied chemistry and geology at King’s College, London. Studied art in Paris, learned printmaking and engraving. Founded a studio which became internationally known as Atelier 17. Became one of the earliest members of the Surrealist movement. Received an OBE and Légion d'honneur in 1951.
