Her career began on television in the science fiction serial Dark Season. Her film career began successfully with Heavenly Creatures (1994) followed by Sense and Sensibility, winning a BAFTA award for Best Actress. The role of Rose DeWitt Bukater in the massive hit Titanic (1997) follwed and more recently she starred in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) and Little Children (2006).
