Studied English literature at King’s College, Cambridge. Published her first novel White Teeth in 1997 which became an immediate bestseller. Her subsequent novels were The Autograph Man (2002) and On Beauty (2005), shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize and won the Orange Prize for Fiction in 2006. Has also published a number of collections of short stories.
